Notice of NSHBDA regular monthly meeting May 20, 2014

Hello everyone,

NSHBDA regular monthly meeting will be taking place Tuesday, May 20^{th, 2014}. The evening’s session entitled “European Doors & Windows” with Nigel Collinson (NC Design) & John Hattie (Atlantic Home Designs).

As usual, our monthly information session will take place in Room 5424 at NSCC Waterfront or via video link to NSCC Lunenburg. The session will start at 6:15pm.

Prior to the monthly meeting, the Education Committee will meet at 2:00pm in Room 5424, with the Executive meeting following at 3:00pm.

All are welcome to join us for supper at Pilot’s Pub at 5:00pm (10 Atlantic Street, Dartmouth, NS).

We look forward to an interesting and active discussion. See you then!

European Doors & Windows

Have you noticed, as we drive through towns and villages our heads turn, looking at the unique details of the buildings and the visual balance of it. Windows and doors, along with architectural details are an integrated part of this.

It was no different for Nigel and John when they went on their individual European trips. From their personal adventures and the wild use of their cameras, we will have an opportunity to experience what they saw.

Nigel will walk us through doors and windows, talking and featuring their unique details and discuss how they are put together. John will discuss individual windows in traditional and modern Swiss Architecture. Together, they will show us how some of these windows and doors are used in combination with architectural details to visually feature and balance the mass of the structure. With Nigel’s European construction experience, he will demonstrate in sketches, how some of the window and door details are achieved as presented in the pictures of these architectural structures.
