2016 Bursary Award Winner
At the September 20, 2016 monthly training session, NSHBDA presented its annual student bursary of $1000.00 to Jessica Burgoyne, returning NSCC, Lunenburg Campus student.
This bursary is given to a first year industry related student that excels in the participation of the Association, by attending monthly training sessions, special training events, working home shows, home tours, entering the design competition, etc. In Jessica’s situation, she also stepped forward and represented the Lunenburg NSCC Campus as one of our student representative in our Associations, Board of Directors.
Academic performance is another element that goes toward the selection of this bursary winner. This includes such things as academic marks, class room participation, group participation, meeting assignment deadlines, attitude, etc. This bursary is presented to a successful candidate that demonstrates their eagerness to learn, participate and succeed in this industry.
The winner is announced at the NSHBDA Annual General Meeting in June and only presented upon verification of the student’s return to their educational program in the fall. Shown in the photo is Jessica Burgoyne receiving the cheque from John Hattie, Founding President of the Association. He is standing in for Mark Gillis, Past President/Chairperson of the NSHBDA Bursary Committee and Sean Saulnier, President of the Association.
