NSHBDA Industry Survey 2008 – Condensed Results

NSHBDA members typically offer residential design and drafting services, but many also offer commercial, landscape and interior design services as well.

Last year, our members designed an estimated 531 projects:

- 371 new single family residences

- 5 new multi-family residences

- 33 commercial projects

Similar figures are expected for 2008-2009.

NSHBDA members typically bill out their services at both hourly & fixed rates. Hourly rates average $71.67/hr for design and $50/hr for drafting.

Trust & experience are the most common factors that play a role in our client’s selection of a designer.

Typically, the projects our members design cost $150/sq.ft. for new construction.

In the last year, buildings designed by our members had total construction values of approximately $160 million.
